Last weekend saw the conclusion of the ‘ITTF Hopes Week and Challenge’ at the Werner Schlager Academy in Vienna, Austria. A total of 66 ‘hopes’ from 32 countries attended, all born in 1999 or 2000. They were there for World class coaching and to win one of 8 places on the ‘ITTF Hopes Showcase Team’, which will compete in Guangzhou and France later this year.
Following a week of intense coaching from the likes of Mario Amizic (coach of Zoran Primorac) and opportunities to practice with players such as Michael Maze, the week finished with a massive tournament. Two girls and two boys would automatically qualify for the ‘ITTF Hopes Showcase Team’ by reaching the finals.
Everyone that attended received a VQ medallion to remember the occasion. The top four boys and girls also received a VQ Table Tennis Bat Pendant.
Boys Results: 1. Wong Ho Hin (Hong Kong), 2. Christi Pletea (Romania)
Girls Results: 1. Leung Tsz Ching (Hong Kong), 2. Ng Yuen Wai (Hong Kong)
